Diver Training

We teach the British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC) qualifications in house.

Our training programme will be published in Freshers week.

New divers

If you are new to diving and unqualified, you start on the Ocean Diver Course - You are advised to book onto a course as soon as possible as spaces are limited. You do this by joining the Club and signing up for the Ocean Diver course with Adam the Training Officer. Please make sure you understand what is required of you to avoid having to drop out and wasting a training space.

The Ocean Diver Course aims:

  1. To teach complete beginners the relevant theory knowledge for safe diving using either air or nitrox mixes up to 36 per cent oxygen for no-decompressionstop diving to a maximum depth of 20m.
  2. To teach complete beginners the necessary practical diving and rescue skills to dive safely and competently with a buddy of similar or greater experience/ qualification to a maximum depth of 20m, while under the supervision of a Dive Manager or at a managed site.
  3. To introduce students to the wide variety of additional activities that are available to divers, including the study of marine life and wreck appreciation.

The Ocean Diver course consists of:

  • Six classroom modules
  • A theory assessment
  • A basic swimming assessment
  • Five sheltered-water modules

Due to restricted pool availability the Club aims to complete pool training before Christmas. If you have not attended enough sessions before Christmas, you may be unable to complete your training until 2018/2019 autumn term, when we next have pool time booked. This means you need to get on with your training as quickly as you can, delaying repeatedly could cause issues for you.

If you cannot make a booked session, please let Adam, the Training Officer know as soon as possible so that it can be allocated to someone else.

Open water sessions

Open water training will happen in a variety of inland sites, or the sea if the weather allows that. We hope you can start these before Christmas after your pool training and some theory
